Sam Wilson’s New Avengers: A Post-Endgame Roster Rebuild
The Captain America: Brave New World trailer confirmed what many Marvel fans have speculated: President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross wants Sam Wilson to rebuild the Avengers. With Tony Stark gone, Steve Rogers retired, and the original team fractured after Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) needs a new generation of heroes to step up. But who could make the cut? And with the Avengers Tower seemingly sold, could the team move from New York to the West Coast? Let’s dive into potential members for Sam’s New Avengers.
The Core Team: A Balance of Experience and New Blood
While Sam Wilson (Captain America) will undoubtedly lead, assembling a new squad means finding the right mix of veterans and rising stars. Here’s who could make up the New Avengers roster.
1. Shuri as Black Panther
T’Challa’s tragic passing left Wakanda needing a new protector, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever saw Shuri step into that role. She brings intellect, technology, and combat skills that rival Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. Shuri also adds global political weight to the Avengers, much like T’Challa did.
2. Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
Peter is still an Avenger (thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home), but with his identity erased, he’s operating in the shadows. However, Sam might be the one to bring him back into the fold. Spidey remains a fan favorite, and having him on the New Avengers honors Tony Stark’s faith in him.
3. Daredevil (Matt Murdock)
With Daredevil: Born Again set to dive deeper into Matt Murdock’s story, now is the perfect time for him to transition into the Avengers. He’s been a core Avenger in the comics (especially under Luke Cage’s leadership), and his street-level crime-fighting could complement Sam’s grounded approach to heroism.
4. Shang-Chi
With the Ten Rings and immense combat skills, Shang-Chi could be the team's martial arts powerhouse. His film teased that Wong, Captain Marvel, and Bruce Banner were already looking into the rings' mystical origins, hinting at an Avengers connection. He could be the bridge between the New Avengers and the larger cosmic/mystical threats.
5. Wonder Man (Simon Williams)
The MCU has teased Wonder Man’s introduction with the upcoming Wonder Man Disney+ series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. In the comics, Simon Williams has been a West Coast Avenger and brings raw strength that rivals Thor’s. His inclusion could hint at the Avengers relocating to the West Coast.
6. Kate Bishop (Hawkeye)
Since Hawkeye (2021), Kate Bishop has been a rising star. She’s a natural fit for the New Avengers, bringing youthful energy and archery skills. Her involvement would also mirror the comics, where she was a key member of Young Avengers, potentially leading into a two-team structure for the MCU’s Avengers.
7. Falcon (Joaquin Torres)
Sam Wilson passed on the Falcon mantle to Joaquin Torres, making him a natural addition to the team. He represents the next generation of heroes, filling the air support role with his new wings.
8. Hulk Variant (Smart Hulk, Red Hulk, or She-Hulk)
With Bruce Banner’s uncertain future, the Avengers still need a Hulk. If Red Hulk (Thaddeus Ross) appears in Brave New World or if Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) wants to step up, the team would gain immense strength. She-Hulk’s presence could also add legal expertise, considering the government’s history of controlling superhumans.
