Oscar Isaac's Caped Avenger Gets a Makeover in Marvel's Moon Knight
Marvel Studio's continuous tease of what's to come in its plans for the streaming service has given us an early peek at Oscar Isaac ready to step into the costume of Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight, in his own solo streaming series as part of today's Disney+ Day celebrations.
Moon Knight was initially debuted in Werewolf by Night #32 in 1975, a book that inspired a purported Halloween special for Disney+ next year, and new peeks published today as part of a Disney+ special preview tease a look at how he would appear in his own series. Spector becomes the Moon Knight in the comics after getting mortally wounded while on a mission in Sudan, going against the orders of a fellow mercenary. After being carried to the temple of the ancient Egyptian divinity Khonshu, he is magically healed. Spector becomes the avatar of Khonshu's determination to defend the weak as Moon Knight, believing that Konshu cured him and gifted him with improved talents that make him an even deadlier warrior by moonlight.
Isaac's Spector can be seen briefly waking up and strolling through a museum surrounded by Egyptian exhibits in the footage. We hear Spector say in what can only be characterized as a British accent, "I can't tell the difference between my daily life and nightmares," as another scene shows him trembling atop the feet of a statue, cut between shots of him standing in darkly lit halls and looking in a mirror. Marc's relationship with the will of Konshu now occupying his body has appeared as split personalities in several Moon Knight comics, thus whether this is Marc's usual voice or the voice of one of these personas remains to be seen.
We then cut to Spector, now dressed in his white Moon Knight costume, cape and everything, thrashing someone in a shattered public restroom. "The voice, in your head," another voice says over the footage. It eats you alive. This figure is just identified as "Man" in the Disney+ subtitles, although it could be Ethan Hawke's character, who is currently being kept under wraps. The teaser ends with a couple more nighttime views of Moon Knight in action, this time dashing along a body of water and then jumping between roofs lighted by the crescent of the moon. Later in the special, there are a few extra shots that show more of the detail in Moon Knight's outfit, as well as a sequence that depicts Spector "waking up" on the spot in the middle of a street with his face bleeding, surrounded by unconscious bodies and terrified bystanders.
